I have a question about this.

If I live in a city in California that has a City sales tax, and the person buying product lives in Florida, do I pay any city sales taxes on that sale?

Ebay is a private website and that is thier rule.
As long as someone has the proper business licenses, I don’t think there is any legal age req.

Find books online that are significately lower than other sellers. Buy them and sell them right before the semester starts. This is definitely a feasible way to generate income.

Yes, it is possible to make a living selling textbooks online, BUT….

If you don’t know the book business, don’t have a good source of used books, inventory to sell out of, and so on you are better off looking for another solution.

Based on my own experience in buying books I believe that many, if not most, of the online book sellers also have brick and mortar stores. I do know of at least one where their online business has become more significant than their retail location, but I don’t know if they are the rule or the exception.

Getting back to your real question which is what can dad do to start a business that will let him make a living online I think the best approach is to pick an area he is familiar with either from work or from a hobby and look at how he can use his knowledge to sell goods or services online.

Pay Pal has fees involved but who doesn’t? They can deposit funds into tour bank but you have to have your buyers use it also. there are no fees for your buyers.

Actually, that’s not correct. You are required to pay sales tax for whatever county/city the purchaser is in. So make sure to charge whatever the rate is for the purchaser’s county- not your own. For instance, here in Southern CA, the sales taxes can vary wildly from city to city and county to county. In the cities near me, there is as much as a 2% difference. So vendors here have to make sure they charge sales tax based on the purchaser’s city or be forced to pay the difference themselves.
